In the early years, we were paying so-called SEO experts to optimise our web sites. Full of promises, they all told us that our money would be well-spent and that they would get us the best possible search engine positions (placements). In some instances we handed over some very large sums of money only to find, weeks and months later, that our sites were no better ranked than before. Sound familiar? Yes - most of our clients tell us a similar story.

So a few years ago, we started to look at the 'nuts and bolts' of search engine optimisation (or SEO) and soon realised that some of the 'tricks' that these 'experts' were using were actually damaging our search engine rankings.

It became clear to us that there is no quick fix for better search engine rankings. SEO is about time and knowledge - nothing else. The two go hand-in-hand and without one the other is completely wasted.

This led us to take a completely fresh look at web design (our main business at the time) and how most designers were building web sites. We found that most of them were being built - not for the search engines at all - but for the designers' ego! Artistic masterpieces they may have been, but totally useless for attracting visitors and business.

Soon we were building websites that were being ranked by Google in just hours after upload and getting No.1 positions on relevant searches. Now we really are One Step Ahead.
